James J. Hill Days is a three-day festival that celebrates the history and community of Wayzata, Minnesota. The festival is held on the weekend following Labor Day, and features a variety of events, including live music, a parade, a carnival, a street market, and fireworks.
The festival is named after James J. Hill, a railroad magnate who helped to develop Wayzata into the city it is today. Hill was born in Canada in 1838, and he moved to Minnesota in 1856. He founded the Great Northern Railway in 1879, and he helped to make Wayzata a major railroad hub.
